A testing modality defines how and where a patient’s sample is collected. The modality affects appointment or shipping workflows, available patient communications, and the statuses you receive as the order progresses.

At-home test kits

Junction ships a collection kit to the patient. The patient collects their sample by following the kit instructions and returns it to the laboratory by mail. This modality does not require an appointment, but your workflow must account for shipping, collection, and return-shipping statuses. See the At-Home Test Kit Overview for registered and registrable kit workflows.

Mobile phlebotomy

A mobile phlebotomist visits the patient’s home or office, collects the sample, and delivers it to the laboratory. Appointment availability depends on the patient’s address and the supported phlebotomy providers in that area. See the Mobile Phlebotomy Overview for coverage, appointment, and address requirements.

Walk-in tests

The patient visits a partner laboratory’s Patient Service Center, such as a supported Quest, Labcorp, or BioReference location. The patient can generally visit during the location’s operating hours after the requisition is ready. Appointment scheduling is optional and currently available through Junction for supported Quest locations. See the Walk-in Overview for requisition, location, and appointment guidance.

On-site collection

The patient has their sample collected at a customer-managed location, such as a clinic, employer health center, or wellness event. The customer manages when and where collection occurs instead of directing the patient to a laboratory-owned Patient Service Center. On-site collection is currently in beta. See the On-site Collection Overview for workflow details.
