With a walk-in order, the patient visits a partner laboratory’s Patient Service Center (PSC), where laboratory staff collect the sample. The patient needs a completed requisition before collection can occur.

How it works

  1. Place an order through the Junction Dashboard or the Create Order endpoint.
  2. Junction validates the order and creates a requisition with the selected partner laboratory.
  3. After the order reaches requisition_created, the patient can receive instructions and the requisition.
  4. The patient selects a supported PSC location and visits during its operating hours. Where supported, the patient can schedule an appointment before visiting.
  5. Laboratory staff collect and process the sample.
  6. Junction makes results available as structured data and a PDF. See Result Formats.

What to plan for

  • Coverage: Use the Area Info endpoint to identify supported laboratories and services for the patient’s ZIP code.
  • Locations: Use the PSC Info endpoint to find a PSC belonging to the laboratory selected for the order.
  • Appointments: Appointments are optional for walk-in collection. Junction appointment scheduling is currently available for supported Quest locations. See PSC Appointment Scheduling.
  • Patient instructions: Confirm that the patient has the requisition and follows any collection instructions associated with the order before visiting the PSC.
